Park(ing) Day 2017 Attracts Visitors to MVT CID and Ace Hardware Park(let)

On Friday, September 15, the MVT CID and 5th Street Ace Hardware welcomed dozens of visitors to their shared park(let) as part of 2017 PARK(ing) Day. In one parking space, the hardware store held complimentary workshops and in the second space, the MVT CID welcomed guests to a free game area, including oversized wooden “jenga” blocks, plinko, and tic-tac-toe. Each year, working in conjunction with the District Department of Transportation, DC businesses put their creativity on display, building pop-up parks and living rooms in curbside parking spaces.

PARK(ing) Day is an event in which residents and businesses re-think how we use public space by converting metered on-street parking spaces into temporary parks. Since its inception in 2005, the event has spread to cities around the world, taking place on the third Friday of September.
